New Partnership Bringing Dignity and Support to Schoolgirls
YAMI Community Projects is excited to announce a new partnership with Humanitarian Empowerment Fund (HEF) and Dis-Chem Foundation to support school-going girls in the Barberton area.
Through this partnership, we have identified a local school where sanitary pads will be distributed to learners who may otherwise struggle to access these essential hygiene products. This initiative aims to promote dignity, confidence, and school attendance by ensuring that girls can manage their menstrual health without disruption to their education.
Access to sanitary products remains a challenge for many young women, and partnerships such as this play a vital role in helping learners stay focused on their studies and participate fully in school life.
We are grateful to HEF and Dis-Chem for joining us in making a positive difference in the lives of young girls in our community. Together, we are helping to create opportunities, restore dignity, and build brighter futures.
On 23 June 2026, the Project welcomed 135 children. To the delight of the leaders and volunteers, they received a wonderful surprise when pizzas were generously donated by Debonairs Pizza Barberton. The unexpected gift was a meaningful gesture of appreciation for those who regularly give their time and energy to serve others.
The smiles and excitement on their faces were a reminder of how much a simple act of kindness can mean.
Tinyoni Level 1 Graduation
Celebrating New Skills, Confidence and Opportunity
We recently celebrated the successful completion of our latest Level 1 Sewing Training Programme at the Tinyoni Sewing Project.
Our learners worked hard throughout the course, developing essential sewing skills and completing their practical projects. From learning the basics of sewing to gaining confidence in working with fabric and sewing machines, each learner made wonderful progress.
The completion of their projects was a special achievement. It provided the learners with a strong foundation on which to continue developing their sewing skills and explore opportunities to generate an income.
A Special Graduation Celebration
We ended the training with a joyful graduation celebration. Each learner received a Certificate of Completion in recognition of their commitment, hard work, and achievement.
It was more than simply handing out certificates—it was an opportunity to celebrate the friendships formed, the confidence gained, and the new possibilities that come with learning a practical skill.
We are incredibly proud of our learners and look forward to seeing them use their new skills to create opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities.
Tinyoni Sewing Project – Building Skills, Confidence and Opportunity.
On 25 June 2026, we celebrated the successful completion of another Tinyoni Sewing Project Level 2 course.
Over six weeks, learners developed advanced sewing skills, including pattern reading, pattern drafting, working with stretch fabrics, and creating pleats. Each student drafted their own tracksuit pattern and made a tracksuit top, as well as a beautiful pleated dress.
The course ended with a joyful celebration of their hard work, creativity, and achievements. We are incredibly proud of what they have accomplished and look forward to seeing how they use these skills to create new opportunities for themselves and their families.
